Olomu youths appeal to Delta govt, Oguma, other Political leaders for empowerment

Leaders of the youths in the 15 communities of Olomu Kingdom have appealed to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; Olorogun John Unukebo Oguma, National Political Leader of Ughelli South Local Government Area; Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo; Olorogun Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu, Executive Director, Projects, DESOPADEC; and Mr. Emejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Delta State, as well as other political office holders and stakeholders, to recognise and actively engage them.

In a statement signed by their Chairman, Comrade Joel Ekoh, the youth leaders also appealed to traditional institutions to support initiatives that will give young people a stronger voice and create meaningful opportunities for their development.

According to the statement: “Our position is clear: youth leadership should not be ignored in matters affecting the future of our communities.

“Recognising the youth leaders will strengthen communication between the government and the grassroots and promote effective community participation in development.

“The youths need more than promises. They need practical opportunities that will enable them to become self-reliant, productive, responsible and economically independent members of society.

“We respectfully appeal to the Delta State Government, relevant government agencies, political leaders and other stakeholders to support the following initiatives: employment opportunities, financial empowerment, skills acquisition, political recognition and appointments, access to government empowerment programmes, and community development and security.

“Youth empowerment should not be treated merely as a campaign slogan or a temporary political gesture. It should be a deliberate and continuous effort to create opportunities, develop skills, support businesses, provide employment and build a better future for our young people.

“We therefore urge all concerned authorities to treat this appeal with the seriousness it deserves and to consider practical measures that will promote the inclusion and development of our youths,” the statement added.
