Banker and fintech guru, Aniekan Udoh, has pledged to promote adult education and boost security after he was installed as the seventh president of Rotary Club of Anthony Golden, under District 9112 of Rotary International.
Udoh succeeded Olufikayo Ogundairo, who served out his mandatory one-year term. He joined Rotary in 2021, while the club was chartered on March 10, 2020.
The new president pledged to increase membership and execute humanitarian programmes in line with Rotary’s objectives.
He said: “Our projects would not merely be activities on a calendar. They should respond to real needs and produce measurable improvements in the lives of people in our communities. This is the impact we desire to create.
“For us, basically, we are an evolving club and, in as much as our mantra is service to humanity, our Service Above Self, as regards Rotary International’s dictates, we’re also looking at creating an impact within ourselves as a club. We want to ensure that, as a club, we also service ourselves. We just have to be that club that is a happy club. It’s a club where anybody, either Rotarian or otherwise, can come, fellowship with us and enjoy our company.
“My message to the club is: the journey has started again. This is our seventh year, and we are going to go multiple years after today. There are Rotary clubs that are over 50 years old, and they are still standing. So, we’re also looking at getting to that point so that posterity will also judge us accordingly, to say, these are the people who started this organisation, this particular club, and we have been able to leave something worthwhile for them. Then, for outsiders, Rotary, I don’t know what to say, but it speaks to that entity worldwide, over 1.3 million members and counting.”
Udoh inducted the following members as the club’s new board: Vice President, Dr Bello Yusuf; Secretary, Benita Oghojafor Mahmud; Treasurer, Olusola Agbebiyi; and Service Project Chair, Nneka Ogbogu.
Ogundairo described his tenure as “a very successful year.” He explained that he won five district awards, with a first position in Youth Service. Overall, the club was eighth in the district, rising from 33rd position the previous year.
“At the end of a remarkable United for Good Rotary year, filled with impactful activities, humanitarian services, community projects, youth development initiatives, and a strong commitment to the Rotary ideals of Service Above Self, the Rotary Club of Anthony Golden has once again demonstrated that dedication, teamwork and purposeful leadership truly produce outstanding results,” the IPP added.
Also congratulating him, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Miller Dantawaye, said Udoh deserved the honour, attributing the achievement to his dedication, leadership and commitment to Rotary.
Dantawaye said: “As you assume this noble responsibility, I am confident that your tenure would be marked by wisdom, visionary leadership, unity and impactful service that will uplift lives and bring greater glory to our great club and the communities we serve.”
