By Chancel Bomadi Sunday

BOMADI — Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Rawlings Dagidi Andaye, has visited victims of the early morning fire incident at Bomadi-Overside, the commercial hub of the riverine community, and pledged relief support for those affected.

The visit followed appeals by residents and sympathisers to the Delta State Government and the Bomadi Local Government Council to assist victims of the inferno.

Arriving at the scene shortly after 2 p.m., Andaye sympathised with survivors and the family of the deceased, Mr. J.T. Christopher, who was reportedly burnt beyond recognition. His body was said to have been discovered by neighbours after the fire was extinguished.

Addressing the victims, the council chairman expressed gratitude that many residents survived the incident despite the extensive damage.

“I have come to assess the situation and sympathise with those who lost their means of livelihood. I thank God that many of you survived this unfortunate incident,” he said.

He also extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, describing the tragedy as painful and unfortunate.

“I sympathise with the family of the deceased. I am yet to meet his wife and children, who are not here at the moment. It is a very sad situation,” he added.

Andaye disclosed that he had directed the councillor representing the ward and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Bomadi Police Division to compile an inventory of properties destroyed in the fire.

According to him, the report will enable the council to assess the extent of the damage and determine appropriate assistance for the victims.

“As chairman of the council, I assure you that we will assess the losses and determine the level of support we can provide.

“We will certainly provide palliatives to all those affected by the fire,” he said.
